Essential Ingredients

AROMATHERAPY is the natural art of using Essential Oils for the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of the individual on an integrated, holistic level. Aromatic plants have been used for healing purposes for over 4,000 years, starting with the Egyptians, then Greeks (Hippocrates), Romans, Persians (Avicenna), Chinese & Europeans such as (Culpepper) who incorporated an alchemical approach for transforming the soul.
By the early 1900ís chemists in Europe were extracting the active plant ingredients in a controlled fashion through the distillations process. In 1937 the word "aromatherapy" was used by the French scientist Rene-Maurice Gattefosse. His interest in volatile plant chemistry was succeeded by giants such as Dr. Jean Valnet, Marguerite Maury, Robert Tisserand & Shirley Price - all eminent Aromatherapists from Europe. Aromatherapy practices nowadays include the use of Essential Oils in body massage, for therapeutic skin remedies and for culinary purposes.
CAROMACARE uses 100% pure Essential Oils for treatments and skin products, including a number of other natural ingredients below:

ALOE VERA - (Aloe Barbadensis) is a juice extracted from the succulent Aloe plant from North Africa. Known for its medicinal properties, it contains compounds such as polysaccharides, mannans, anthraquinones and lectins, possibly useful for wound healing, sunburn, inflammations, diabetes and for lowering raised blood lipids. Effective both topically and ingested. (Caromacare ALOE VERA COOLING GEL for sinusitis and headaches.)

APRICOT KERNEL OIL - (Prunus armeniaca) contains the essential fatty acids oleic and linoleic acid. It is also high in vitamins A and E. These substances are good moisturizing agents for dry skin. Ideally used in face creams and for body masage.

CARRIER OILS - Sweet Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis)and Grapeseed Oil (Vitis vinifera). These are excellent base oils for body massage and in skin products. They are 100% cold-pressed to retain their original minerals and vitamins, and have a good shelf-life. Sweet Almond may not be suitable for those suffering from nut allergies. Essential Oils are dissolved in carriers at a dilution of between 1 - 3% for body massage.

COCOA BUTTER - (Theobroma Cacao) comes from the roasted seeds (beans) of the Cocoa tree, in West Africa, through the hydraulic pressing of the nibs to release its 3 unique triglyceride liquors. Caromacare uses the solid, aromatic unhydrogenated butter, free from perfume or preservatives. This plant fat is renowned for its healing, protective & moisturizing qualities, high in Vitamin E. and other anti-oxidants, and is ideal in face-care products. Helpful for wind and sun-damaged or mature skin (Caromacare VITAMIN E. RICH FACE CREAM).

COCONUT OIL - (Cocos nucifera) contains 50% Lauric acid which is a medium-chain fatty acid useful as an anti-viral and anti-bacterial agent. The Oil is unscented, especially useful topically for massage work and nutritional application. Helpful for scalp conditions such as dandruff.

DEAD SEA SALTS - contain natural crystals of magnesium, potassium, calcium and sodium chloride - used in bath water for good skin care, aching muscles, psoriasis & oedema. Caromacare adds organic Lavender Essential Oil to aid relaxation.

ESSENTIAL OILS - these discreet natural chemicals are removed from plant flowers and leaves by the methods known as steam distillation, expression and solvent extraction (absolutes). They contain molecules small enough to pass through the skin in to the blood stream and are therefore highly effective in body massage (with a carrier oil) and in skin care products. When used in combination they produce a synergistic effect within the tissues to enhance the bodyís metabloic processes. The Oils are also volatile (odorous) which is why they are ideally suited to Aromatherapy practices.
Caromacare uses 100% pure Essential Oils in all the product formulas with special attention to bespoke therapeutic remedies.

EMULSIFIERS - these are added to skin care products to help stop oil and water ingredients from separating. Caromacare uses Cetyl alcohol (palmityl alcohol) from the palm plant and Caprylic/capric triglyceride which is derived from fractionated Coconut Oil. This has good dispersion and solvent qualities and contains a high level of anti-oxidant to stabilize the products.

FLORAL WATERS - (Hydrosols) are the natural by-products of the Essential Oil stream distillation process. Nothing else has been added to them apart from the plant extract and water as a clear colloid suspension! Beautifully refreshing and cleansing to the skin. Caromacare uses Rose, Lavender, Orange Blossom and Witch Hazel Floral Waters in many of the products.

HERBALLY INFUSED OILS - like Lavender, Rosemary, Comfrey & Calendula are made by steeping the dried plant material in a carrier oil under warm sunlight conditions until the volatile oils diffuse out of the plant tissue. Caromacare infusions are useful for skin problems & joint and muscle inflammations. Totally natural in their production.

JOJOBA OIL - (Simmondsia chinensis) comes as a liquid wax from the seeds of the Jojoba shrub from Arizona & Mexico. It contains lipids similar to those found in human cell membranes and is used as a moisturizer, for hair care, for stretch-marks and for flaky, dry skin.

Has anti-inflammatory and warming properties. (Caromacare ORGANIC SESAME SEED OIL & COMFREY OINTMENT for joint and muscle problems).

SHEA BUTTER - (Butyrospermum Parkii) is an ivory-coloured natural fat from West Africa, extracted from the fruit of the Shea tree by crushing and boiling.
